ผู้ที่มีอำนาจและมีเจตนาไม่พึงประสงค์มักต้องการควบคุมและชักจูง (manipulate)ประชาชนให้เชื่อว่าการกระทำที่ไม่พึงประสงค์ของตนนั้นชอบธรรม แต่สิ่งนี้เป็นเรื่องยากเมื่อประชาชนมีความสามารถในการประเมินการกระทำเหล่านั้นอย่างการแสวงหาความจริง (Truth seeking) และปราศจากอารมณ์ครอบงำ
พฤติกรรมและความเชื่อค่อย ๆ ถูกสร้างขึ้น ซึ่งการถูกปลูกฝังให้เป็นผู้บริโภคที่ไม่กระตือรือร้น (Bred to be lazy consumers) และคอยป้อนอิทธิพลไปยังสัญชาตญาณที่ไร้เหตุผลของมนุษย์ โดยอารมณ์ที่ทรงพลังที่สุดคือความกลัวและความเกลียดชัง
Fear
A population will maintain an unjust power structure if they believe it is needed for their safety. This is why there is always an enemy or a crisis that those in power are needed to protect against.
Examples include health scares, fragile economies, or the fear of an external enemy.
Hatred
When population are manipulated into hating others they disregard where their distrust should be focused, the people in power who feed the fires of hatred.
It does not matter who is hated, it could be neighbors, races, religions, or other nationalities. There is always someone we should hate, the population segmented into groups that cannot tolerate each other when rationally all should be able to live in peace.
